There is 'duping' in St. Louis also as Kiel Opera House downtown
continues to be sacrificed to the 'pretenders' on or near
grand avenue, especially the Fox Theatre. The original Nelson-
Atkins 'duped' no one, as Kiel Opera House 'duped' no one.

The 'dupers' are the current crop of revisionists of the best from the past. They operate out of kind of a paranoia because they can't do today,
what was done yesterday.

Well, believe it, ece. One could just as easily argue the opposite - that classical building is the showy one (pretending to be a transplant from 'golden age' ancient Greece, showing off pompously lofty columns with gratuitous ionian curls atop). Holl's buildings are indeed 'modern' (a term which you seem to use with scorn), yet at least they're honest. They are comfortable in their age, in their era. The older building is trying to dupe us; it's pretending to be from the 5th century (but of course is 'modern', having been completed in 1933).
