The entire Expocenter project is rather disgraceful and, in the opinion of *many*, just spoiling this city, apart from breaking the law (you aren't supposed to see this sort of contemporary architecture from the historical center of the city, but the skyscrapers they've built so far.. well, you can see them from just about everywhere). Saying this project is not Russian is not, I believe, being all-so-narrow-minded. It doesn't have to be a Stalinka to be Russian. However we here have a strong spirit and traditions, simply disregarding them and building 'international', that really doesn't work. Sure, maybe it's just because I don't like glass skyscrapers and Zaha, even less so together, but mostly I'm very negative about this project because I think this city needs a different approach and different architecture. We're special, just like everybody else. It's a great pity that neglect for our culture starts from the government (read: Luzhkov. The man is out of his mind. He really doesn't care. "Oh, this is an international superstar architect? I want something built here and there and there") and the same neglect goes down to the architects who, naturally, care even less about some special approach. So hate me if you will, but I think this project is ugly, and I'll be flinching anytime I have to see it for real. I already do, at what they've built so far. Stop being so narrow-minded and accept the good things the West has to give. If you seek only the Russian, you will be confined to yourselves and therefore isolated. I think that the contrast of this building, if made, with the traditional Russian architecture will be beautiful and brilliant. It will make Russians proud of their culture and traditions AND of their progress and prosperity as a modern country. So what if it’s not typical Russian?
