Some buildings deserve to be wild experiments in sculptural space, like an architecture school or an art school. It seems though that there is a current that would go far beyond this, into a world of subjective sculpture intwined with high speed transportation linkages and pathways: a brave new world of building that calls to mind the post-apocolyptic art of Lebbeus Woods. But Woods doesn't subject us to the actual buildings as Mayne does. If Thom Mayne can convince the people paying for these projects to go for it, more power to him. One more thing, this building is not even close to being sustainable, I don't care what LEED certification they purchased.

What about the scale and majesty of the buildings before the Church and Cooper Union?
I'm sure someone said exactly what you are saying years ago.

I don't understand why so many architects fail to take into account the environment they're building in - the beautiful church and old Cooper Union building will make the new space look tacky and pompous and the new builing with diminish the scale and majesty of the older buildings.
