Boys boys boys... Phil has a point.

The 25 year old Michael Graves Portland Building is falling apart and the roof continues to leak... not a good thing in Oregon. But it was one hellava fashion fad architectural statement.

Hey, the salvaged wall and such is a bit like the "Solar Pavilion" by Peter and Alison Smithson.

Thanks Chris; I certainly do understand that architecture needs to perform, and I agree it is a beautiful and well crafted design.

Jimmy, unfortunately the history of architecture is littered with the failed attempts to follow trends of aesthetics without asking the searching (geekish) questions that actually enable the design to work.

Hey Jimmy,
Maybe Phil understands that architecture needs to perform as well as it looks and is asking a very relevant question given that laminated glass is going to act as a thermal bridge and require quite the heating system to offset it.

It is a gorgeous design.

Really a fascinating design and execution! The alternating oak and glass gives the extension a very light and airy feeling while still providing great structural stength. It looks very light from the outside while giving a strong feeling from the inside. Absolutely beautiful.
