agreed that FAT usually manage to expose us to some humour, ugliness and beauty at once...thats why they are memorable, however this design has somehow missed the point in all areas. I don't find this one amusing, and its beauty has been hidden by the big fat mis-match of forms.

ah - the new ugly...
its great to see people get so worked up about this design. Its focus on form for form's sake differs very little from your typical starchitects' works blogged on dezeen - I think the difference is that FAT knowingly focus on producing an ironic form whereas other architects often retro-actively justify their fantastic creations.
Its also great to see architects having a bit of fun considering how serious almost all architecture is - this building is going to look great on a overcast wet day in the UK.

why do you think the third image has been rendered?
a) some grey translucent people are tryin to do smth with some colorful books
b) all the windows are diamond shaped but there is a cicular spotlight on the wall
c) to find Mario Botta is better or Rem Koolhaas is not
d) you don't know, may be it's just pink

It's the paucity of imagination that is its most striking aspect. For all the 'ha ha, he he - look aren't we ironic' - it's just a very poor building.

I think their use of cheap computer modeling has cheapened the design itself. I will reserve judgement until we see some built images, but for now, ick.

what a convoluted mess. represents almost everything that is wrong with soulless contemporary architecture; first and foremost the fact that it is garnering international press.
