I have exactly the same feeling…but is a really nice image. Maybe this architect is “franchisised” by Toyo Ito himselfs or subcontracting some nice works for him?
In this case he should mention it somwhere.

if it the surface pattern does not become a volume then we are still stuck in thinking of surfaces, instead of spaces.

I couldn’t agree more with your comments Vince B. A repeat of the Eiffel tower project, willfull formmaking but a nice object.

Althought the design of the object is really nice, I think that “objectecture” can work fine in a block urbanism by exemple in Shenzhen where Serero purposed a design for the Museum of Contemporary Art &. Planning Exhibition (sic) which I feel is very MAD-like, but, here as i can judge on the pictures provided, this object seems to hardly fit between the two existant buildings althought it seems to be nice into the tree surrounding. Another point is that I don’t feel at ease with the explanation of the patern’s design origins. The text says that it was inspired by the top of the trees of the surrounding site. Regarding the Eiffel tower work and other things on Serero’s website that look almost identical and that are explained with different words, I feel like we reached the limits of “poetic” justification. I like most of his works aesthetically speaking, but i’m afraid that spreading in different places with different justifications the same gesture will empty each project of its own sense.
And it’s nice but is it functional? I can’t say from the pictures, but Eiffel extension seems not…
