To me,it seemed quite odd to compare Columbus Convention Center with this project,as they barely have anything in common except the geometric similarities. The landscape, the program and the design seems completely different from eachother in my eyes.
I find this project quite good, even with its huge scale it still tends to provide connectivity in landscape. The square seems to be working very well also i find the proportions between different fragmantations of the building quite sensible and aesthetic. The general decisions on site plan are also very successful.

I realised, I have just made a fool out me: the city hall of Bale is from the same office! Once submitted, no turn back...

Still, I think that building is much more related to the cultural environment where it stands, then this one.

dear malique,

Believe me, I know what you mean. I come from a small, post-communist country as well: Hungary (hey, we are neighbors) currently living in Germany. I know, that our countries need desperatly such buildings, and if every new building would be only this good as this, we would not have to worry about the visual environmental damages commited every day by some developers thinking neo-barock is the ultimate architecture style that the people want.
But if I didn`t know, I wouldn`t be able to tell where this building stands. It is a good idea, but not grown out of the site. I am personally much more interested in buildings, that are equally strong in design, but unmistakeably croatian. And there are such buildings built: for example the city hall of Bale from 3LHD architects .

ok i am from croatia and i am totally disappointed. i mean, like you've already said, nothing new, but i can imagine that for most of the people in croatia this would be totally new and shocking! the people are very conservative here. they could have done some much more in this project.

hmm... yeah.. but i think most of the design in this century are the almost the same. this building is comparable to Thom Mayne's Diamond Ranch High School as well..

Nice design, but nothing really original. Peter Eisenmann did this already 15+ years ago: check out the Columbus Convention Center . O.K., the colors are maybe more pop-ish (end of the 80´s), but the idea seems pretty much the same to me.
