To Rebecca:
You say: Just a guy with lots of money ! I am his sister and we shared the same childhood. I would've liked to see you survive the way we did then. Read some of his biography and you will see that what you say is so far off reality.
Rgds,

Arne Quinze Works, page 3

"We are very happy to hereby present the first monograph of the inconsumable body of work by Arne Quinze and are confident that we have been able to convey Quinze’s brimming and open-minded creative energy, that acts as a source of inspiration for all creatives.

One of the main reasons that we did this book, however, is the deep empathy we share with the artist’s positive and hands-on approach of interacting with the world in the absence of prejudice. Quinze holds his right as an ambassador for the optimistic and stimulating power of creativity. And there’s surely nothing more contagious than true passion."

+
What bothers me, is how Gestalten (the publisher of the book) seems to have been co-opted into a tool of Quinze's marketing department. I saw Gestalten's lovely and timely 'Fragiles' exhibition this year at Design Miami but was totally blown away. Yet I was totally put off by the feature videos of "Quinze at work" "Quinze destroying an old hotel in a ridiculous american biker-costume", and then later to see that the show was displayed in his studio, (called 'Gallery' 311" but come on...) where all the works were sitting above his "signature paint splashes". Those paint splashes are like a marketers idea of what an 'artist' is and I think say alot about him.

But Quinze is just a guy with a lot of money, wanting attention. Nothing wrong with that. What I find disturbing is the fact that Gestalten,- a pretty creative, nimble publisher in design (one of the important ones) seesms to have lost all sense of critique and just offered some part of their staff to join Quinze's marketing Army.. How sad! The Fragiles show was excellent for demonstrating an emerging way of working, but failed when it became overly-focused on one of the participants.

We need smart authors, and publishers. They are what protect this field from becoming a languid swamp full of ass-wipes. Come on GESTALTEN!

The lines which go over the side are lovely as a graphic detail.
Which stores sell the book? (except the online ones)

A more pressing question is whether the paper would be a suitable substitute for my toiletpaper. Quinze is a disgrace to Belgium.

"Why someone would be even trying to win one of these books?"

Obvious answer: Not everyone is only interested in architecture.
