Just think of Oscar Niemeyer and you have to be a fool to not see that this building is lacking. The idea of the undulating roof is a very simplistic translation of a sketchy doodle, and doesn't seem to deliver anything more than an intellectual construct. By that i mean that people will enter and see the roof thinking 'undulating roof... undulating landscape...building connecting with nature...i get it!' but no experiencial quality.. Elaborating on the detail to this degree is very much Renzo Piano, but seems unpleasant and cluttered to me, and is very much a relic from late last century. It is an ode to blandness. However, the last Piano building I went to - Zentrum Klee, was rather hastily detailed and constructed and much nicer in photos that in person! Cant take away from an absolute topnotch concept though. Hope the same is with this one! Nice to see A STARchitect doing something more tangible and textural amid all the relatively 'thin' rendered work currently floating around the web. Piano does do good work , and this looks like testament to that.
