i realy think alvar aalto's design is something we can all learn something from. the form of his Savoy vase is according to him either from an woman's Eskimo pants or an little eiland in Finland. to take such a form and make it into an vase is great. especially if you thin about the fact that is was made in 1936!

no matter how you look at it the preview calls to mind the vase (if you like the vase or not!) but to call it an wallpaper hype is like saying Memphis was unimportant to the design history!

I think the vases are terrible. Do the judges have no design aesthetic? Man-o-man!
When I saw the topside photo, of the winning design, I thought Savoy knockoff. When I saw the side view I thought Apollo rocket ship.
Rocket ship doesn't exactly scream "water" to me.

not at all michael. If they were like the savoy it would have been disappointing. The Savoy's are nice but overated anyway. everyone likes them beause they feel they should. its wallpaper hype and you bought into it.
