I designed something which looks almost exactly like this in 2004/5 for my final yr project at uni. However, I did the surface in Corian and added a surface texture which was done by CNC. My project was developed to be used as public seating where the people who use it will interact with the furniture’s surface, and components and hopefully each other too. Again, I also did a back rest but also included mini tables, magazine rack and coat stand which slotted into the holes.
Maybe I’ll put some pics of the prototype on my forthcoming website!

I see a whole line coming soon. Very versatile even in possible parts and shapes. Will be watching.
