Lite by Animal Farm



Design Indaba 09: Cape Town designers Animal Farm are launching a wooden light fitting at the Design Indaba Expo in Cape Town, South Africa this weekend.


Lite is manufactured in several different species of wood and is designed so that it can only be used with an energy saving light bulb.

Animal Farm makes Lite work

Cape Town creative consultancy Animal Farm are launching their new Lite at Design Indaba Expo. Designed so that it can only fit an energy saver bulb, Lite is light on electricity and spun from plantation wood so it’s sustainable and light on the environment. Can be hung in groups or individually, or used as a work light. No stains or dyes are used. All the wood is it’s natural colour.


Designed by Porky Hefer and manufactured in collaboration with Doug Banfield.

    I like the part where the lamp looks like a light bulb

  • I love it! I love that the outside frame of the bulb takes the shape of the object within. It’s like a retextualization of the lightbulb. Very cool.

    First and foremost, anything design-wise coming out of Africa gets my attention at the very least; as far as these lights are concerned I do like them, red compliments the wood well. I can see them working at their best in some kind of high ceiling eatery. Trust me- I’d be looking to purchase these lights if I had one!

    This really takes a lot of the uniqueness away from the Animal Farm Design – Fresh design interpretation, but old idea nonetheless.
