A new addition to their existing Allumette collection, the sofa has a thin frame made of unvarnished wood, sourced from the Arura Vermelho tree.

Premiere at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile 2009

ALLUMETTE is the eye-catching furniture range in the Röthlisberger Kollektion. The designs originate from the internationally-renowned designer trio 'Oï'. The furniture range includes tables and chairs – and now also the ALLUMETTE sofa.

The striking appearance of the ALLUMETTE sofa is attributable to its filigree framework design in hardwood sourced from the Arura Vermelho tree. Here, forces and counter-forces interplay to accept loads. Elegance and originality combine with stability. The non-varnished wood with its metal-like tone is finely polished, allowing its sensual presence to develop fully. The ALLUMETTE sofa offers a high degree of seating comfort – and adds an extremely prestigious touch to living spaces and reception areas thanks to its sturdy and distinctive appearance. The ALLUMETTE sofa comes in three different sizes with individually selectable coverings and cushions.

This design is a nice concept and is carried out well. However, it doesn’t appear to be substantial enough (is there a weight limit? or if you bump into the legs with significant force would it fatigue the wood members into breaking?). Perhaps a more singular, more unified language of wood application to the design would appeal to me. Then again, I’m a beef-eating American…what do I know?

P.S. would make a nice fit in a tropical atmosphere.

I don’t like it, but you’ve got to have respect for the construction method and the wood
