I don't know how people can sit and chastise Piano and his studio for creating such a high mark on the London skyline. The egos of architects may have become inflated over the years with more and more super-building and the spread of the "Bilbao Effect," but it is still the ambition, greed, and deep pockets of developers that most shape the growth of our cities. As designers and architects, it is their job to make that development as responsible and beautiful as possible (you try fitting 55,00 square meters of offices into an urban site and not make it look "massive.") Hate it as you might, cities and architecture change continuously, and controversial buildings like the Gherkin and the Shard will eventually become accepted and loved.

A special construction that will be the backdrop for London 2012... no one likes change; even the Eiffel Tower was rubbished - but it is an icon of Paris and France now... Renzo has done more than just design a building, he has created something akin to the great pyramid of its day right on the south bank of the THAMES... at last LONDON is making its 21st century presence felt; EXCELLENT!
Can't wait to dine there!
