Sportswear brand Nike have opened a store in a former Jewish bookstore in Paris.

Located in Le Marais and designed by the brand’s in-house team, the project involved restoring tiles, ornaments and handles from the original interior.

The design incorporates furniture and display fittings inspired by gymnastics equipment.

Illustrations inspired by items of sports clothing and the surrounding Parisian landscape decorate the walls.

Here’s some more information from Nike:

Nike Sportswear Store, Le Marais, Paris

Set in the Jewish quarters of La Marais, this small store pays homage to the heritage of the space (Jewish Bookstore) by adopting part of its original interior and personality.

The original facade is kept and refreshed. Features of the interior such as the tiles, ornaments and handles have also been restored.

Sports cues such as gym equipment, colors, materials and even sports books provide a Nike tone of voice and a backdrop of Nike Sportswear products.

The graphics are inspired by the Nike icons which is playfully integrated with Parisian landscape and lifestyle. On the first floor is a Nike ID space and exclusive NSW apparel offering.

Design: Nike Brand Design EMEA
Graphic design: Antoine + Manuel
Total Store size: 118 M2 on 3 floors

not amazing design, but certainly great for a Nike store

There is so many things going on in this project, that I wonder if there is an idea present at all. Each isolated element, such as the wall paintings and furniture are interesting, but as a whole, it feels like a eye hurting conflict. Perhaps it is that the photos don’t do it justice or that this space needs to be experience one to one, but I cannot just don’t get it.

Make up your mind, have an idea and follow it through.

Interesting ‘cacophony’ of ideas, a little anti-brand perhaps?
