INTERIEUR 2010 ANNOUNCES THE BIENNALE’S ARCHITECTS AND GRAPHIC DESIGNER

DE VYLDER VINCK TAILLEU (www.jandevylderarchitecten.com) are the architects in charge of INTERIEUR 2010’s masterplan.

«Jan De Vylder, Inge Vinck and Jo Tailleu have impressed us with their smart, innovative renovation projects, often on a very small scale,» says Jesse Brouns, curator of INTERIEUR 2010. «They have managed to sublimate the Belgian vernacular style.»

The architects’ largest project to date, a building for Ballets C de la B in Gent, was nominated for a European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture Mies Van der Rohe Award in 2009.

From Ai Wei Wei’s profile of the architects in the book 10X10/3: 100 Architects, 10 Critics (Phaidon, 2009): «De Vylder’s humor and sensitivity mix to reveal another side of the world. With a schoolgirl-like stubbornness, De Vylder insists on a freedom and uniqueness of expression not common among architects. Like an artist, he applies his gentile touch to simplify situations into what he desires. His architecture bears witness to a relentless attempt to have fun.»

SARA DE BONDT is INTERIEUR 2010’s graphic designer. Belgian-born, London-based De Bondt is considered one of her generation’s most accomplished designers. She set up her studio in 2003 and has since worked for Wiels Centre for Contemporary Art in Brussels, Barbican Art Gallery, British Council, ICA, Victoria & Albert Museum and Nottingham Contemporary. De Bondt teaches at the Royal College of Art in London. She was awarded the Prix Fernand Baudin in 2008. The first results of Sara De Bondt’s work for INTERIEUR 2010 are visible on the Biennale’s website.
