This is pure structural ingenuity. Could it have been simpler? yes, perhaps.
Though, who's to say it would have supported itself. I love it!

Don't think there's anything complicated about it. The construction is simple. Overdecoration, I would say.

Interesting (for me) is the use of acrylic solid surface material for the treads. It's almost unknown so far here in Australia, but I understand it's not uncommon in Europe. Co-incidentally, we've been contracted to do a stair entirely sheathed in acrylic solid surface. Concept impression here: http://bit.ly/euxLjr
