Scaffold Lights by Lanzavecchia + Wai

Milan 2010: Italian-Singaporean studio Lanzavecchia + Wai presented a collection of lights made of fabric stretched over steel wire frames in the Ventura Lambrate district of Milan last month.

Called Scaffold Lights, the collection consists of nine lights and a metal stand with a hook at the top, which the lights can be attached to.

The lights can also be hung from the ceiling or simply placed on surfaces.

The fabric comes in a variety of colours and is interchangeable.

Photographs are by Daniel Peh K.L.

Lanzavecchia + Wai also exhibited a range of furniture wrapped in fabric. See our earlier story.

Here's some information from the designers:

During the Milan Design Week 2010, Lanzavecchia + Wai, a creative studio of Francesca Lanzavecchia and Hunn Wai presented their debut collection "Spaziale Series". The Scaffold Lights share the same genealogy as the Domestic Creatures.

The Scaffold Lights are borne from the concept of light structures and flexible skins. Geometric metal wire frames support and pull elastic skins into organic shapes, creating contrasts of material and form, which is further highlighted when the lamps are switched on.

The family consist of nine lighting objects that can be hung in a cage-holder to be used as a standing-light, placed on surfaces like tables and consoles as well hung in an array from the ceiling like jewellery charms. The colours of the lamps can be changed by wearing different skins, suiting the moods of the user and the interior space.

Very awesome looking. They also may force people to use low wattage, or more efficient bulbs due to the heat on fabric.
