yellow nosings on the staircase, standard 600x600 office ceiling in the atrium, with light tracks and £10 smoke detectors in the atrium,.. I think those AEW guys must be kiddin? They should be deprived of their architectural practice licence.

Why does the facade look like the cantilevering section of the MAXXI museum by Zaha Hadid?

This project hardly seems as offensive as everyone is making it out to be... sure it's not some flowery neo-classical megalith or a completely indistinguishable whimper of a glass modernist building, but nor is it a giant flamboyant spur that completely ignores context... Formally it responds directly to the context, materially it blends with the other buildings nearby (except those large apartment looking ones in the back?). My primary concern is with the landscaping/ circulation ramp systems around the building and with the strange geometry of the spiral staircase... They both just seem so alien and additive. And the window openings that frame views of the surrounding monuments seem heavy and poorly proportioned... still hardly cause for voting it the worst building in Britain....

I'm not convinced about the pill-box opening at the front, but the general impression doesn't seem so bad to me.

The spiral staircase is handsome - perhaps it's a pity the whole thing has not echoed that comfortably organic shape.

But I reserve judgement until I've seen it on a typically cool, blustery, dank, grey day, because only then can the external materials choice be properly judged.
