I think it's such a perfect example, How initially neat designs become obsolete when it comes to market without being sense on the reality.

Oh, and what happened to the three plugs socketed into a main plug as in the first design. This was neat. Is this a goer or has this been scrapped?

Yes, it's a shame it doesn't have the earth pin. The first design made it worth while as a design. Without the safety feature of the earth, well… Without it its just a like a european plug, which you can purchase for under a euro!
The only benefit I can see is the folding wings, to hide the metal parts – if say your moving a laptop with power supply in tow it stops the plug from damaging its top.

By using a typical, flat european plug you wouldn't need all this flimsy stuff.
You would also have 25pound left to buy someting usefull.
