One year ago...

This time last year Nike launched a football strip for the French national team featuring the classic Breton stripe, while Terence Conran, Tord Boontje, Tom Dixon and over a hundred other prolific designers each created an artwork on a piece of graph paper to raise money for cancer care centres.

Design agency Continuum suggested that smokers might find it easier to quit if they could just buy a single cigarette at a time, to the disgust of a few Dezeen readers, and a clock that doesn't reveal the time unless prodded was branded "dirty" almost immediately.

A store opened in Japan where brides-to-be can admire themselves and their dresses inside mirrored picture frames and we featured an oil bottle and a pestle that combine to create a rolling pin.

Other popular stories included an unusual wooden nursery, a house entirely surrounded by car parks and a glass viewing platform designed to cantilever across a glacial valley.
