I like the glazed walls used in ground floor, because it makes a connection between the inside and the outside that maximizes the view and the light coming inside.

This extension seems like it was designed for a different house. A good idea doesn't work in every instance. On its own the exterior is great, love the form of the steel and glass. It works really well, although it seems the architect focused so much on that, he paid little attention to the materiality of the interior.

The new element has a certain charm, particularly when viewed in isolation. The GF kitchen space is well proportioned, and the the plan at this level looks considered, but the rooms over (excluding the bathroom) appear slightly arbitrary - this might just be because I don't understand what they are used for though...

The caption should read, “A poetic extension to an otherwise overly twee Belgian house.”

Still, there is room for critique. The grey tile isn’t successful, and in all there are 5 non-complimentary materials in the kitchen…grey tile floor, lots of white, pale yellow wall, amber wood shelving, and whatever the backsplash is. I think replacing the yellow, backsplash, tile floor…and the one vertical plane under the bar with amber wood would have created an integrated duality.

The problem only with this idea is that the floor choice is obviously an extension to the exterior. An all weather “wood” choice would be needed to continue this theme to the garden.
