The exterior shot of the bent door just looks like someone backed into it with a big truck to me.

It's another fun use of a small space - like many of the Japanese 'designer' homes that are featured on Dezeen's website.

However, most of these homes that are featured consist of long corridors, high ceilings, and an open plan to create these large spaces. Along with the lack of insulation, is this careless architecture in a country that is facing an energy crisis?

I'm just curious how much of an energy pit these homes are compared to your typical Japanese home or apartment?

I can't say I like this all that much. Those repeating beams are imposing and overbearing and I want to get out from under them! There just seems like too much tension between all the structural elements.

I think that an understanding of minka (traditional Japanese farm houses) allows the interior to make sense.
