This won't be stopped any more than MP3s, torrents, or ebooks embedded in JPGs has been stopped.

Rights in the music, rights in the movies, rights in the objects... all this is gonna change in the next years and legislators will try to stop it. As always they don't like innovation, but with no practical success.

Think about this: imprinted logos as advertising in return for free 3D files.

Oy vey. Sure, there'll be some issues to hash out. The DRM stuff is likely to be as greed-driven and stupid as it is in the audio, video, software, and e-book realms (you'd think we'd learn). But this neurotic handwringing and pearl-clutching over printed cars and planes which won't exist any time soon and bikes (somewhat sooner) is just silly. People have been homebuilding all three kinds of conveyance for longer than there have been companies mass-producing them.

The applicable regulatory and insurance structures are fully in place and are blind to whether you built it using wrenches and screwdrivers, a forge and English wheel, a 3D printer, or sharpened flint arrowheads. As for the legal liability, s/he is foolhardy who sells a homebuilt (of any kind, built with whatever tools) without obtaining a signed release of liability.
