The cladding is over fussy with too many lines and too many colours, and desperately needs clear surfaces to breathe. It totally lacks subtlety, which of course music has. He respects the context in which he works, but adds to it by building a world-class structure that elevates the architectural quality of its surroundings. I would personally love to visit this building and experience it for myself. This looks like it would be more at home in a place like La Boca in Buenos Aires. I wish I could see more site context than just a few thin trees and a perfectly manicured lawn. Piano isn't generally one to pull ideas from his ego, so maybe there's something I'm missing. I don't totally buy the lute construction thing. Context aside, this really is quite beautiful. It's vibrant and exciting. I can see every visit to this theater being filled with fun and energy! Conversely, it would be near impossible to have a sad or melancholy production here.
