Couldn't agree more. A robust concept that unfortunately hasn't been carried through to the detailing.

Spaces are fine but as architecture it is facadism to the ultimate, with a cladding that does not relate to the interior as far as one interior shot tells us. The cladding is over fussy with too many lines and too many colours, and desperately needs clear surfaces to breathe. It totally lacks subtlety, which of course music has.

Pity that the form of the structure is not good enough for the acoustics; the panels are not so pretty.

Once again, Renzo Piano executes a simple concept with amazing detail, craftsmanship, materiality, spacial understanding, and contextual significance. He respects the context in which he works, but adds to it by building a world-class structure that elevates the architectural quality of its surroundings. I would personally love to visit this building and experience it for myself.

On the one hand, I've never been much of a fan of buildings that served as jewels on a white canvas site. This looks like it would be more at home in a place like La Boca in Buenos Aires. I wish I could see more site context than just a few thin trees and a perfectly manicured lawn. Piano isn't generally one to pull ideas from his ego, so maybe there's something I'm missing. I don't totally buy the lute construction thing.

Context aside, this really is quite beautiful. It's vibrant and exciting. I can see every visit to this theater being filled with fun and energy! Conversely, it would be near impossible to have a sad or melancholy production here. I would love to visit it and experience it for myself.
