I pass a facade mock-up of these flats every day on the bus, and it looks just as pseudo-modernist and plasticky as these second rate renders. I do sincerely hope the architects are as naively earnest as they sound – otherwise, they’re just as complicit in this joke as the marketeers branding it ‘Canaletto’. If you’ve ever been to City Road Basin, you’ll know it’s about as far from Renaissance Venice as these renders…

“The elegance is found in a texturing of the facade, giving it more of an unusual scaling” – must be on a very small scale there Benny, as really I can’t see any elegance at all in these bulbous 1990s bookshelves. But at least there’s a solid argument for their existence; you can point at your own apartment. Which, to be fair, will be popular with city boys.
