This week Luzinterruptus installed an army of radioactive scarecrows at a German festival and we finished the summer by rounding up our top ten stories about swimming pools.

We also released the Dezeen Book of Ideas for pre-order ahead of its launch at Dezeen Space during the London Design Festival later this month.

UK design organisation Hidden Art was forced to close, Angela Brady took over from Ruth Reed as president of the Royal Institute of British Architects and artist Ai Weiwei branded Beijing as “a city of violence” in an article for American magazine Newsweek.

The winners of this year's Index Awards were announced, including See Better to Learn Better by fuseproject and Elemental Monterrey by Elemental.

On Dezeen Watch Store we added The Last Laugh by Mr Jones Watches, a macabre watch with numbers printed on the teeth of a skull. You can watch a time-lapse movie of the watch on Dezeen Screen, plus there's another chance to see some of our popular interviews filmed at Dezeentalks at [D3] Design Talents in Cologne earlier this year.

Follow us on Twitter and Facebook for regular updates and discussions throughout the week.
