Readers were in two minds about a proposal for the world's tallest tower that will attempt to clean a Chinese city's polluted air, and unanimous in their disapproval of a skyscraper by SOM planned for Gothenburg, which will be more than twice as high as the Swedish city's current tallest building.

Ikea backtracks on legal take down of fan site for furniture hackers

In design news Ikea stepped back from legal action against fan site IkeaHackers, which publishes adaptations of the flat-pack giant's furniture created by its fans. Furniture e-commerce company Fab moved to expand its catalogue of original products and European business by purchasing Finnish design brand One Nordic.

A redesigned extension cable created to prevent tangling was launched this week, as well as a lamp with a hexagonal wooden shade that extends over its light bulb.

Popular projects included a series of illustrations depicting classic songs as buildings, and installations created with pieces of charcoal suspended by nylon threads to form outlines of classical architecture and furniture.
