Shanghai designer Zhili Liu has designed a series of lighting inspired by birds. 

Top image: Sparrow. Above: Nightingale.
Called Bird, the bone china sockets hold each bulb at an angle.

Above: Doves
They can be hung in clusters, attached to a perch or displayed with a shade that represents the bird&#8217;s cage.

Netherlands-based designer Han Koning has designed a series of lighting made of randomly-formed plastic. 

Called Static Plastic, each lamp is stretched to a different height, stamped and numbered.

The two halves are joined by a rubber strip.

The range includes a pendent lamp that houses two bulbs and a smaller table lamp with one bulb.

Italian designers Studio06 have created a pendant lamp inspired by light penetrating underground caves. 

Called Furà, the lamp has a smooth outer surface and a wavy, ridged interior.

It is produced by Italian manufacturers Biffi luce and comes in black or white.

Graduate designer Johanna Schoemaker last month won the Braun Prize 2009 for Family of OLED lamps, a range of remote-controlled lamps that open and close like flowers.

The range utilises OLED (organic LED) technology, which produce diffuse light akin to daylight from a thin surface rather than a pinpoint source.

London Design Festival 09: designer Benjamin Hubert is presenting a second collection of lamps for Danish brand Unique Copenhagen at 100% Design, which opens today.

The collection, called Spinning Light, is made of spun aluminium shades with injection-moulded PVC fittings.

The pieces aim to resemble spinning-top toys. The lacquered finish is available in black, white and purple.
