Competition: we're giving readers the chance to win a copy of trend forecaster Li Edelkoort's new book exploring fetishism in fashion.

Fetishism in Fashion was written by Edelkoort to coincide with the Mode Biennale 2013 she has curated in Arnhem, the Netherlands, which is running until 21 July.

The book provides the official catalogue of the biennale and includes work by fashion house Alexander McQueen and designers Formafantasma.

Evolution of taste from birth to adulthood, the psychology of branding and the power of the colour black are all covered in the 248-page compendium.

Full-page photographs accompany short stories and essays by Edelkoort plus fashion writers such as Susan Piët and Valerie Steele, with graphic design by Jeroen Jas.

The hardcover book issued by Frame Publishers comes bound in a red rubber band and is available to order on the company's website.

The newest publication from Frame Publishers is a book about fashion which delves into the world of contemporary fetishism. Its release coincides with the Mode Biennale Arnhem 2013.

Fetishism in Fashion by internationally-renowned trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort explores the world of fashion through a fetishistic lens to reveal an instinctive future for style and culture.

The reference book investigates the evolution of taste from birth to adulthood, the elevation of shoes through ever-higher heels, the psychology of branding, the effects of infantilism, the power of the colour black, the fetishising of objects, and the interaction with skin and the body.

With visually-rich – and sometimes shocking – photography and essays by established authors discussing art, clothing, design, textiles, food and beauty, this in-depth publication sheds new light on the fetishism phenomenon.

More than 50 fetishes are illustrated by inspiring visuals from the likes of Leigh Bowery and Erwin Olaf, boundary-stretching works from designers such as Formafantasma and Alexander McQueen, and eye-opening essays by Susan Piët and Valerie Steele, amongst others.

Vignelli explains how he begins a book design by laying paper over a simple grid for positioning images and text, which can't be seen in the finished article. "The grid is the underwear of the book," he says. "You wear it but it's not to be exposed."

He lists different layout options made possible by his grid system, including several pictures per page, one full page image and one smaller opposite, or double-page photos for the "wow" effect.

Vignelli sketches the images by hand when mocking up the layout as he believes it's faster for him than using a computer.

He compares the design process to making a movie. "The scale and the pacing of the images makes the book, it's just like a film," he says. "The scriptwriter is the author of the book, and I'm the director and cinematographer."

The film was designed by Michael Bierut of Pentagram for paper manufacturer Mohawk's What Will You Make Today? campaign. It features the publication Richard Meier, Architect: Vol. 3 released in 1999.

Earlier this year it was announced that Vignelli's logo and livery designs for American Airlines were to be replaced by new graphics by FutureBrand.

Competition: we're giving readers the chance to win one of five copies of a new book of projects by Ma Yansong, director at Beijing architecture studio MAD, including the recently completed China Wood Sculpture Museum in Harbin.

Congratulations to the winners! Charley Foulds from the UK, Colleen Lee from Canada, Elisavet Antapassi from Greece, Frederic Neubauer from France and Stella Wongso from Australia all won a copy of Ma Yansong's monograph.

Ma Yansong: From (Global) Modernity to (Local) Tradition is a product of a retrospective exhibition that took place at the ICO Museum in Madrid, documenting eight years of work by the Chinese architect.

The hardback book is curated by Menene Gras and includes essays and photos of the exhibition, as well as images of some of MAD's best-known projects.

Featured buildings include the curvaceous Absolute Towers in Mississauga, Canada, the Ordos Musuem in Inner Mongolia and a concept for a star-shaped mobile Chinatown.

Each project is accompanied by concept sketches, technical drawings and model images, along with final photographs where relevant.

Competition: we’ve teamed up with publisher Wiley to give away five copies of their new book Inside Smartgeometry, about advances in parametric design.

Inside Smartgeometry: Expanding the Architectural Possibilities of Computational Design explores the work of the Smartgeometry Group, a network of designers and architects who experiment with parametric software to design spaces, prototypes and buildings.

The book contains computer renderings and photographs that document over a decade of advances in computer software for architecture.

Edited by Brady Peters and Terri Peters, the hardcover book contains contributions from Robert Aish, Martin Bechthold, Mark Burry, Chris Williams, Robert Woodbury and other members of the Smartgeometry community.

Competition: we're giving readers the chance to win one of five copies of a book about the Golden Lion-winning Torre David project presented at last year's Venice Architecture Biennale.

Congratulations to the winners! Gregor Gaspersic from Slovenia, Julien Benayoun from France, Julieta Vasileva Zambarova from Bulgaria, Silene Rivera from Mexico and Nassos Mantas from Greece all won a copy of Torre David.

Torre David: Informal Vertical Communities contains photographs by Iwan Baan that document life in an unfinished 45-storey skyscraper in Caracas, home to more than 750 families. Pictures show how the residents have created a community  for themselves, introducing a gym, a hair salon, shops and other amenities.

The images were displayed in an exhibition and restaurant by Urban-Think Tank of Venezuela and architecture critic Justin McGuirk at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2012, which received an award for best project at the event.

Edited by Urban-Think Tank and published by Lars Müller, the book also contains plans and diagrams of the structure, plus information about life in the vertical slum.
