Dezeen Music Project: Mountain
by Only Girl

Only Girl, aka Ellen Murphy, is a London-based singer with a dreamy, distinctly 90s R&B sound.

This track called Mountain combines simple, sparse percussion with lush, soaring vocal harmonies. Comparisons with fellow south-Londoner Jessie Ware immediately spring to mind, which suggests commercial success could be just around the corner for Only Girl.

Dezeen Music Project: Solaris
by Giga Herbs

Here's the latest single taken from New York indie-rockers Giga Herbs' debut album Mad Weird LP. Solaris starts off much more stripped-down than previous tracks we've featured by the band, but it doesn't take long for a nice dose of fuzzy, distorted guitar to kick in.

It's good to know there are still bands out there who know how to make a great-sounding guitar-based pop record.

Dezeen Music Project: Waste Of Time
(remix) by Jungle

This remix of Danish artist 's track Waste Of Time by London producers Jungle brings together two of the most exciting acts to emerge last year, both of which look set for a stellar 2014.

Jungle have toned down the intensity of MØ's original track here, sacrificing the singer's raw energy in favour of a mellow-but-funky groove.

Dezeen Music Project: I Hold by Sivu
featuring Marika Hackman

UK singer-songwriter Sivu, aka James Page, seems to have spent most of 2013 on the verge hitting the big time and is surely set to explode in 2014. Working with in-demand producer Charlie Andrew, the man behind Alt-J's critically acclaimed debut album An Awesome Wave, should certainly help.

Sivu's latest EP, I Lost Myself, was released earlier this month, but he has made this track called I Hold - presumably an off-cut from the official release - available online as a free download.

It features Sivu's typically ethereal vocals, with a guest appearance from singer Marika Hackman, all accompanied by a melancholy blend of pianos, guitars and a dark underlying electronic bass.

Dezeen Music Project: Shake
by Blak Nite

UK artist Blak Nite, as his name suggests, specialises in exploring dark and murky sonic territories, creating music that, in his own words, sounds "as if it was found in a ditch or gutter or down a back alley."

Shake, which is taken from Blak Nite's Shadow Party EP, is built around a deep, rumbling bass from which fragments of vocal samples sporadically emerge.

You can watch the music video for the track here.

Dezeen Music Project: Amorphous Romance
by Max Cooper and Tom Hodge

UK producer Max Cooper and classical composer Tom Hodge have teamed up to create this haunting electronica track called Amorphous Romance, taken from part two of the duo's Fragmented Self EP.

Hodge's piano playing is the focus of the track, to which Cooper has added subtle but increasingly intense electronic percussion, which he created from chopped-up samples of the sound of the crowd at a Manchester United football match.

Dezeen Music Project: Jungle Du Dimanche
by Aimedeuxhaine

Jungle Du Dimanche is a dreamy electronica track by French producer Aimedeuxhaine. Starting with a few clicks and keyboard splashes, the track builds up almost self-indulgently slowly. But it's worth sticking with it for the beautifully inventive rhythms and melodies that kick in around half-way through.
