Aki and Arnaud Cooren of Paris studio A+A cooren have designed a glass vase with a vortex-shaped void in the middle.

Called Tourbillon, the vase is in two parts: the first is a dish to contain water and the second supports the flower stems in the vortex.

The design is produced in three sizes in a limited edition of 21 and is on show at Gallery S. Bensimon in Paris.

"TOURBILLON" (Vortex)

A vase evokes the water cycle, snap shot of a subtle natural harmony.
The dynamic of the water is accentuated by the rigidity of a glass bubble that surrounds.

This vase is the result of a meeting between computer technology and a French high quality craftsmanship. Realized by a glass craftsman, Wilfried Allyn, who has implemented the necessary technique to realize the vortex.

Composed of two parts in borosilicate glass. The main part and a small cup which receives water.

Available in 3 different sizes at Gallery S. Bensimon, from 9th of June

Paris design studio A+A cooren have designed a glass vase where the neck has been turned back inside the vessel to support flower stems.

Called Air Sundae, the limited edition vase is made from borosilicate glass, usually used to produce test tubes, and can be separated into two parts for easy water changes.

Paris design studio A+A cooren have designed a collection of lights held together with velcro.

Called Borderline, the collection of includes a suspension lamp with a cantilever arm, a floor lamp and pendant lamp, as well as a limited-edition vase.

The collection was presented at the Light + Building Fair in Frankfurt last month.

Lighting, BORDERLINE

Two shells – originally one black, one white – are joined to form a sharp borderline between dark and light. They’re bound by three velcro bands, leaving the shell edges free of metallic joints. When the lamp is on, the inner white shell diffuses a soft, comfortable light, while the indirect light emitted from the top gives the impression that the lamp is floating below the ceiling. The contrast of black ABS outside and opal white acrylic inside is striking even when the light is off. The three elements – shade, diffusor and velcro tie bands – are clear and visible features in the design and make the lamp easy to maintain. No manual is needed to change the bulb. The standard versions include either a 60W fluorescent lamp or dual 60 and 55W fluorescent lamps for extra illumination, enabling the use of Borderline in different spaces.

Additional fixtures of different typologies have recently been added to the original ceiling version: Big Foot – floor lamp of enlarged proportions, Big Arm – supension lamp with cantilever arm, Borderline suspension lamp – a suspension version in 2 different dimensions. The new version in all white shells will be available from May 2010. The whole Borderline collection will be presented at Light + Building 2010 Fair in Franfurt from 11. – 16. April, 2010, at vertigo Bird stand Hall 1.1. stand D02.
