Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka has trapped a crystal in a perfume bottle for crystal brand Swarovski.

Called The Scent of Crystal, the project was proposed by Yoshioka while working with the brand but will not be put into production.

For this symbolic work, Tokujin set up the concept of "Wearing the scent of crystal."

While Tokujin has been conducting several collaboration projects with Swarovski, he was commissioned to come up with a concept design for a product that symbolizes Swarovski.

Rather than by rearranging visual shapes, he pondered of designing a perfume bottle with a thoroughly new concept, which is to affect the senses.

The intent of the design is to bottle crystal within perfume, and to let the crystal fit in the scent.

Even this project had not been realized, Tokujin developed a new perspective.

Milan 2010: Japanese designers Nendo will present a seemingly-empty perfume bottle in Milan next week.

Called Clear Perfume Bottle, the design has an atomiser hidden in its cap while bubbles are trapped in the glass container.

It will be on display as part of an exhibition of Nendo's work called the Chair Garden at Galleria Antonia Jannone.

Clear perfume bottle for 1%

A perfume bottle filled with nothing. When part of the cap is pulled up, an atomizer capable of holding 2 ml of perfume appears. Is the bottle full of water, or is it filled with air in which float soft soap bubbles? Bubbles in the glass give the illusion of either. By giving users this experience of 'emptiness', the bottle invites them to explore the invisible sensation that is fragrance.

Designer Karim Rashid has created a bottle that filters tap water as the user drinks it.

Called Bobble, the product features a replaceable carbon filter, available in six colours.

Each cartridge can filter up to 150 litres.

Bottled water has been one of the fastest-growing sectors in the beverage industry. Americans spend over $15 billion every year to satisfy their thirst for it. Most plastic bottles are casually discarded, ending up in landfills, in oceans and on sidewalks. Bobble is made from recycled plastic and is free of BPA, Phthalates and PVC.

Bobble is reusable. It is intended to be an everyday accessory rather than an impulse decision. Its recommended retail price is $9.95. The low retail price of bobble and its filters is intended to mitigate the cost of regular bottled water consumption, which can run into the hundreds of dollars annually. A single bobble filter equates to at least 300 water bottles, which lessens the environmental impact that single-serve bottled water imposes.

"We all love bottled water. But our bottled water habits are simply unsustainable, both from an ecological perspective and as a matter of financial common sense," said Richard Smiedt, founder, Move Collective, LLC. "We set out to design a bottle that would improve the taste of tap water to the point where consumers could turn on their faucet, rather than open their wallet. Our patented filtered water bottle achieves that goal."

Bobble is made in the USA. It was designed by renowned industrial designer Karim Rashid and features an iconic shape. Bobbles are sold in six distinct colors: green, red, blue, magenta, black and yellow. Carbon filters are a proven, powerful chemical absorbent. As water passes over them, the negative ions of contaminants are drawn to the carbon granules, where they remain. The filtered water has a cleaner, crisper taste and meets or exceeds NSF International Standard 42, the standard that governs public and private drinking water.

At first use, consumers should fill their bobble with water and squeeze it through one time; this gets rid of any loose carbon. The activated carbon filter requires no maintenance thereafter. It should be replaced every two months or after filtering approximately 40 gallons, or 150 liters, of water.

Designer Karim Rashid has created a baby's bottle that heats milk to body temperature without using electricity.

Called Iiamo Go, the product heats the milk using a disposable capsule containing water and salt. Heat is generated as the salt becomes re-hydrated.

iiamo go is a self-heating feeding bottle that gives parents on the go the ability to serve body temperature milk to their baby anywhere anytime without the use of electricity. iiamo go is the only bottle in the world with this unique combination of a portable, non-electrical, throw-away organic heating cartridges (iiamo warm) and a patented heating technology that is integrated into the bottle itself. The process is very simple. Pour the mother’s milk, formula or milk powder in the bottle; insert the cartridge in the bottom of the bottle and then just push, wait a few minutes and serve the milk.

The World Health Organization recommends heating the milk to body temperature before served to babies and this is now possible no matter where the family is – in the car, at the office, at the grandparents, in the supermarket, in a café or in the park. Also, in contrast to the vast majority of feeding bottles iiamo go is produced in the 100 percent BPA-free material PP (polypropolene).

iiamo warm – the heating cartridge is part of the mystery and secrecy behind the iiamo go success and consist of only salt (CaCl2) and water generating heat by using the re-hydration energy from dehydrated salt.

Karim says of the design “Feeding a baby is a warm, intimate moment between parent and child. The bottle enables that human connection. Though a very functional product, a baby bottle doesn’t need to be a strictly functional. Emotional and aesthetic appeal must be considered too. Children love reflective shiny colorful surfaces and materials – I do too - maybe I am still a child. So it was time to make a baby bottle a wild interesting sculptural colorful animated object so the baby actually gets excited about being fed.”
