<p><img title="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2011/04/dzn_3D-Athletics-Track-by-Subarquitectura-13.jpg" alt="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="170" /></p>
<p>The text that follows is from the architects:</p>
<hr />3D ATHLETICS TRACK<br />
Elda, Alicante / SPAIN</p>
<p>Designing an athletic track could get you as bored as when you are running on it: curve, straight, curve, straight, again and again…</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-125245" title="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2011/04/dzn_3D-Athletics-Track-by-Subarquitectura-19.jpg" alt="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="468" /></p>
<p>Perfectly standardized, sport architecture has become more universal than international style. Track length of 400 m, 36.5 m radius. 1.22 m each lane... just data, without any fissure to let your imagination soar.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-124948" title="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2011/04/dzn_3D-Athletics-Track-by-Subarquitectura-10.jpg" alt="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="170" /></p>
<p>We have added to the conventional track an alternative one, amateur and funny, raised and three-dimensional. It goes off on a tangent, covers the changing rooms and returns to the conventional track.</p>
<p><img title="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2011/04/dzn_3D-Athletics-Track-by-Subarquitectura-17.jpg" alt="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="292" /></p>
<p>As new ways are available for athletes, spectators get involved in the sport activity, seated in-between this two tracks.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-124953" title="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2011/04/dzn_3D-Athletics-Track-by-Subarquitectura-15.jpg" alt="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="351" /></p>
<p>This is our tribute to all the sport pioneers that created new ways of performing that later others followed. Tom Burke, Dick Fosbury, Graeme Obree….</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-124954" title="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2011/04/dzn_3D-Athletics-Track-by-Subarquitectura-16.jpg" alt="3D Athletics Track by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="279" /></p>

<p>This house by Spanish architects <a href="http://www.subarquitectura.com/">Subarquitectura</a> spirals down a sloping site in Madrid.<span id="more-93961"></span></p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93963" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-1.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="468" /></p>
<p>The sweeping form overlaps at one point and gradually ramps down to accommodate the slope of the terrain.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93964" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-4.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="285" /></p>
<p>360 House has continuous fenestration along the east-facing side to offer panoramic views of mountains in the distance while descending through the house.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93965" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-5.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="532" /></p>
<p>Where the form overlaps a staircase offers direct access between the two storeys.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93966" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-6.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="273" /></p>
<p>The house's exterior has been finished in black slate tiles, while the interior has whitewashed walls and ceilings throughout.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93967" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-7-1.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="310" /></p>
<p>All photographs are taken by <a href="http://www.davidfrutos.com/inicio.asp">David Frutos</a>.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93968" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-7-2.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="367" /></p>
<p>Here's some more from the architect:</p>
<hr />
<p>360 House
Galapagar , Madrid / SPAIN</p>
<p>A unique opportunity for us in reality a problem that’s been posed thousands of times: to construct a house with a public programme of social relation, associated with the prívate life of a numerous family on a sloping plot of land with priveleged views of the mountains outside Madrid.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93969" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-7.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="468" /></p>
<p>It has no one solution, there are many, they’re even cataloged in books about houses of a slope.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93970" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-8.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="360" /></p>
<p>We try not to think of domestic spaces.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93971" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-9.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="255" /></p>
<p>On the contrary, we take as a point of reference works of engineering, motorway intersections, changes of direction.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93972" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-10.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="327" /></p>
<p>We proceed from generic solutions to the problem of descending , solutions that conceal great plasticity.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93973" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-11.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="449" /></p>
<p>We seek the poetic in all the seems to have been considered from the merely pragmatic point of view.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93974" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-12.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="207" /></p>
<p>The result is the literal construction of a use diagram.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93975" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-13.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="346" /></p>
<p>In this instance, form does not follow function, but is instead function itself.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93976" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-14.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="351" /></p>
<p>Cyclical movement, routine and surprise turn into a way of living.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93977" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-15.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="372" /></p>
<p>Its formal complexity offers the possibility of reaching all points of the house through two different routes, which multiply the possibilities of use and enjoyment.</p>
<p><img title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-17.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="330" /></p>
<p>It has the form of a loop, 360º, like the shapes skaters make, like those of gymnasts, as artistic as they are precise.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93980" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-18.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="283" /></p>
<p>An extreme shape, the house is curved, generating the greatest quantity of linear meters towards the good views.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-93981" title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-19.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="294" /></p>
<p>It is shored up in the landscape and turns back on itself, completing the revolution.</p>
<p><img title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-20.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="230" /></p>
<p>The degree of intimacy increases as the distance to the ends increases.</p>
<p><img title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-21.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="297" /></p>
<p>At the midpoint, a mediatheque, isolated and completely dark, 100% technology, 0% landscape.</p>
<p><img title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-22-1.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="350" /></p>
<p>With a single gesture two ways of moving are generated: going down and looking outwards.</p>
<p><img title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-22.jpg" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="626" /></p>
<p>The long house, a sinuous movement, a descent by ramp and ample turning radii tangential to the setbacks of the plot of land generate a panoramic vision.</p>
<p><a href="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-26_1000.gif"><img title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-26.gif" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="382" /></a></p>
<p><em>Click above for larger image</em></p>
<p>The short house, the quick way in a straight line, stairs of direct descent and a dep view towards the landscape.</p>
<p><a href="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-27_1000.gif"><img title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-27.gif" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="331" /></a></p>

<p>A building that is black outside, absorbent, of slate, a material specific to the location, almost imposed as an aesthetic specification of the area.</p>
<p><a href="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-28_1000.gif"><img title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-28.gif" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="193" /></a></p>
<p><em>Click above for larger image</em></p>
<p>White inside, reflective, generic, neutral and luminous.</p>
<p><a href="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-29_1000.gif"><img title="360 House by Subarquitectura" src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2010/09/dzn_360-House-by-Subarquitectura-29.gif" alt="360 House by Subarquitectura" width="468" height="123" /></a></p>

<p>Life incorporates colour, outside with the vegetation and inside with the people.</p>

<p>Spanish architects <a href="http://www.subarquitectura.com/">Subarquitectura</a> have sent us images of this tram stop they built on a roundabout in Alicante, Spain. <span id="more-19112"></span></p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station-1.jpg" alt="tram-station-1.jpg" /></p>
<p>With the project, which was completed last year, the architects wanted "to turn a traffic circle into a public space".</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station.jpg" alt="tram-station.jpg" /></p>
<p>The following is from  Subarquitectura:</p>
<p>--</p>
<p>TRAM STOP<br />
Sergio Cardell Plaza. Alicante. SPAIN</p>
<p>Light Light</p>
<p>Alicante is a 400.000 inhabitants city of the southeast mediterranean spanish coast.  Over the last years,  there has been building a new tram infrastructure, using the old rails of the local train. This line connects all the towns of the coast, ending in Denia, a northern city of the province, where ships departure to Ibiza.</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station-top-view.jpg" alt="tram-station-top-view.jpg" /></p>
<p>This stop, is the central stage of a new line of the tram, that links the centre of the city to the residential areas of San Juan beach.</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station_.jpg" alt="tram-station_.jpg" /></p>
<p>The construction of the Tram Stop was the opportunity to bring back a stolen space to the city: to turn a traffic circle into a public space.</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station-5.jpg" alt="tram-station-5.jpg" /></p>
<p>Through a fractal access system deformed in each side to avoid the existing trees, the travellers can arrive in a frontal way to the platform in 32 different possibilities.</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station-long-4.jpg" alt="tram-station-long-4.jpg" /></p>
<p>Over the platforms, 2 empty boxes (36 m long, 3 m wide, 2,5 m high) create a floating void slightly over the travellers’ heads. It matches the size of the train, creating an intermediate scale between buildings and urban elements.</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station-long-3.jpg" alt="tram-station-long-3.jpg" /></p>
<p>There is no difference between structure and envelope, neither between roof and walls. It is an isotropic material in both conception and construction.</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station-3.jpg" alt="tram-station-3.jpg" /></p>
<p>The holes reduce the weight as increase the resistance to normal tensions, and equally decrease wind pressures among the surfaces. Light and air pass through, smoothing the shadow and generating a soft breeze in summer months.</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station-2.jpg" alt="tram-station-2.jpg" /></p>
<p>At night the boxes are transformed into two giant lamps.</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-stataion-4.jpg" alt="tram-stataion-4.jpg" /></p>
<p>Benchs are spread over the garden close to the vegetation and the paths, creating a public place overlaying the quiet of the seated people and the movement of the people walking.</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-stataion-5.jpg" alt="tram-stataion-5.jpg" /></p>
<p>Each of the pieces has:</p>
<p>800 holes, in 5 different sizes:</p>
<p>440 diameter 10 cm<br />
240 diameter 20 cm<br />
80 diameter 30 cm<br />
24  diameter 40 cm<br />
12 diameter 50 cm</p>
<p>25 steel tons</p>
<p>13 bar lights</p>
<p>36 meters length<br />
22 meters cantilevered</p>
<p>2 compressed supports<br />
2 stressed supports</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station-7.jpg" alt="tram-station-7.jpg" /></p>
<p>And…</p>
<p>32 access paths</p>
<p>20 benchs<br />
12 bins</p>
<p>TIMMING</p>
<p>5 months designing<br />
4 months prefabrication<br />
3 months executing</p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station-dia-night.jpg" alt="tram-station-dia-night.jpg" /></p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station-6.jpg" alt="tram-station-6.jpg" /></p>
<p><img src="http://static.dezeen.com/uploads/2008/10/tram-station-plan.jpg" alt="tram-station-plan.jpg" /></p>
