One reader will win a vacation for two at Verana – a hotel complex located in Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, in a remote beach town called Yelapa.

Verana is only accessible via boat from Boca de Tomatlan. Once guests arrive, they are greeted by mules who hike them up a hill and "into the jungle", with luggage strapped to their backs.

Nestled at the top are 10 houses designed and built by BoutiqueHomes founders Heinz Legler and Veronique Lievre. Among these is a treehouse-like suite, a stone-walled bedroom with ocean views, and a glazed residence overlooking the mountains.

"Originally intended as a single house, the project grew from the couple's deep appreciation of nature – from images and ideas, and a passion for design and adventure," said a project statement.

"A wonder of environmental engineering and sheer human grit, the untouched jungle site was carefully shaped and meticulously designed using local materials sourced from the land."

Winners of Dezeen's competition will be able to choose from one of these residences for their stay.

Each has a king-sized bed, a living room and a bathroom, with some also boasting private pools and extra bedrooms.

Legler and Lievre gave the different suites their own aesthetics, to best suit the lush surroundings, views of mountains, and the nearby ocean.

The long and slender Blue House features textured, blue-painted walls that pick up on the tones of the sea. Terracotta hues adorn Casa Piedra to match a wooden pergola and rustic furniture, while a thatched roof covers the Japanese-style outdoor living room of the Tea House.

"Each house was designed with its own character and feel to blend with the environment, and each includes its own private outdoor space," said the statement.

"A special place of spectacular natural beauty, Verana transports you to a private oasis of imagination, artistry and style."

The Palapa, the Pool House and Casa Grande make up the other residences.

Verana's guests also have access to the hotel spa, with treatments like massages and facials. Other available activities include yoga practice, daily excursions around Yelapa, and cooking classes.

Boat transportation is included in the prize. Flights and other transportation are not included.

Competition closes 21 September 2018. One winner will be selected at random and notified by email, and their names will be published at the top of this page.
