Watch our talk with Yoo on designing communities

Dezeen speaks to designers Kelly Hoppen and Marcel Wanders about how designers can create thriving communities in this talk with Yoo, which took place at 100% Design in London

Yoo is a residential and hotel design brand known for creating idiosyncratic residences and collaborations with high-profile designers. It was founded by entrepreneur John Hitchcox alongside prolific French designer Philippe Starck.

Dezeen's editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs spoke to Hoppen and Wanders – Yoo's two creative directors – and Hitchcox about how architecture and design can foster and maintain a sense of community.

The talk was held at 100% Design, a trade show at Kensington Olympia that forms part of London Design Festival.

Marcus Fairs speaks to Yoo creative directors Kelly Hoppen MBE and Marcel Wanders, as well as Yoo co-founder John Hitchcox, about how designers can create a sense of community.
Marcel Wanders collaborated with Yoo to design the interiors for Oh!, a residential tower in Quito, Ecuador

Hoppen is an interior designer who has been awarded an MBE for her work. She has designed 181 villas for Yoo in Pune, India, as well the interiors for the brand's lakeside residences in the Cotswolds.

Wanders, who is described by The New York Times as 'the Lady Gaga of the design world,' is best known as co-founder of furniture brand Moooi. His collaborations with Yoo include the interiors of the Oh! residence in Quito, Ecuador and the Mira Moon hotel in Hong Kong.
