Dezeen to co-host Assembly 2019 talks programme at Design Shanghai

Dezeen is co-hosting a programme of architecture and design panel discussions at Design Shanghai on 7 and 8 March 2019.

Dezeen editor-in-chief Marcus Fairs and chief content officer Ben Hobson will each moderate a panel discussion at the Assembly 2019 architecture and design forum, which is hosted at the Design Shanghai 2019 trade fair.

Hobson will speak to Lin Hai of sportswear brand Particle Fever, Alex Mok of architecture and interior design studio Linehouse and Yuichiro Hori of furniture brand Stellar Works about how Chinese architects and designers are combining traditional methods with new materials and technologies to create more sustainable buildings and products.

The talk, which is in association with Neuni Group, will take place at 1:15pm local time on Thursday 7 March at the New Materials Workshop, which is at stand WG-100 in the New Material and Applications Hall.

At 3:30pm local time on Friday 8 March, Fairs will discuss China's emergence as a global design power with Dara Huang of Design Haus Liberty, Hongchao Wang of Benwu Studio, Lyla Wu of Neuni Group and Dayong Sun of Penda at the Design Shanghai seminar theatre.

The talks are open to everyone, but you must have a valid Design Shanghai ticket to attend.

Assembly 2019 is a two-day event of talks organised by Collective Contemporist, a creative consultancy founded in 2018 by writer and consultant Yoko Choy and entrepreneur Maurice Li. The forum aims to to provide a platform for China's creative industries and to encourage cultural exchange between China and the rest of the world.

Other talks in the Assembly 2019 programme include a discussion about whether the next global design movement could emerge from China hosted by The Global School co-founder Beatrice Leanza, and a conversation moderated by Li about how design can enable people to live healthier and happier lives.

Assembly 2019 is hosted at Design Shanghai, which takes place at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre from 6–9 March 2019. The trade fair will see over 400 design brands and galleries from over 30 countries showcasing their latest work, alongside talks, awards programmes and other events.
