Time magazine names V&A Dundee and The Shed amongst world's 100 greatest places of 2019

Kengo Kuma's V&A Dundee and The Shed in New York by Diller Scofidio + Renfro are among the top 100 locations to visit this year according to Time magazine's list of World's Greatest Places 2019.

The £80 million Scottish outpost of the V&A Museum and Manhatten's cultural centre with a retractable roof are two of the architecture hot spots recognised on the magazine's list.

Jean Nouvel's National Museum of Qatar, David Adjaye's Ruby City Arts Centre in Texas, and the Macallan Distillery in Scotland by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners also made the cut for Time's round-up of "100 destinations to experience right now".

Two new buildings by Snøhetta were on the list – the National Library in Canada and Norway's restaurant below the sea Under, which has been longlisted for a Dezeen Award.

Libraries of all sizes are on Time's 2019 list of the world's best destinations, including ALA Architects' Helsinki Library and VAC Library by Farming Architects, a library in Vietnam with bookshelves that double as an outdoor climbing frame.

Numerous hotels were also named within the top 100 destinations of 2019, including the Other Place guesthouse in China's Guangxi region by Studio 10.

Other destination hotels on the Time 100 list included Soho House's outpost in India, Soho House Mumbai, and John Pawson's design for Israel's Jaffa Hotel, where the British desigher converted a former convent in Tel Aviv into boutique accommodation.

Artist's Camille Walala's signature bold graphic design for Salt of Palmar, a hotel in Mauritius was named as a must-see interior, as was Damien Hirst's Empathy Suite, where you can sleep amongst sharks suspended in formaldehyde.

Dezeen Awards 2019 judge Kelley Hoppen's designs for the cruise ship Celebrity Edge earned the 1,500-cabin craft a spot on Time's top 100.

Monumental viewpoints are also on the list of top destinations, including the 182-metre-high Statue of Unity in India built out of Bronze by  Michael Graves Architecture and Design and the spiralling weathering steel structure of EFFEKT's Camp Adventure in Denmark.

This year Time magazine named Jeanne Gang, founder of Jeanne Gang Architects and designer of Chicago's Aqua Tower, as the world's most influential architect.
