Atelier cnS has created an office building that pays homage to its industrial past in southeastern China.
This project is the office building for Zhujiang Brewery Group, and is located on the site of the former Zhujiang Brewery.
As relocation of all production plants had left the site obsolete, the project focuses on protecting its industrial legacy while turning it into a functional office space. The design balances the preservation of industrial memory and the formation of contemporary lifestyle.
The design work started with the most complex building – the former steam turbine factory with adjacent equipment. The concrete trusses and the orderly arrangement of the windows remained, while the façade was divided and additional glazing added. A seven-storey-tall communal courtyard and layered platforms were created, alongside a plaza where original the boiler equipment stands as installation art,
