Terence Conran

Terence Conran is a British designer, retailer and restaurateur.

Conran was born in 1931 and educated at Bryanston School in Dorset, then the Central School of Art and Design (now Central St Martins) in London. He founded Conran Design Studio in 1956 and went on to revolutionise homeware retailing when he opened the first Habitat store in 1964.

Later ventures include The Conran Shop and a string of restaurants in London, Paris, Copenhagen, New York and Tokyo. In 1989 he founded the Design Museum in London.

Conran has written over 50 books on design, selling over 20 million copies of his publications worldwide and was knighted in 1983 for services to design.
