Studying in Italy while receiving a UK university bachelor's degree gives international students the best of both worlds.

The three-year programme in Florence, Italy, results in a BA (Hons) in design, in collaboration with the University of Chester and with track options for either interior or graphic design.

The programme benefits from a well-qualified delivery team, which includes practising interior designers, furniture designers, multimedia specialists, historians and architects, many of whom have national or international practice recognition.

Students receive extensive contact hours in design studios with small class sizes of twelve students per design studio.

Some advantages of studying at FIDI are that students are required to do assignments individually, as well as a few group projects, with extensive contact hours.

The teaching team has excellent links with the industry through their practice, and this up-to-date industrial knowledge feeds directly into curriculum development and enhancement.

The lesson time is complemented by a programme of visiting lecturers, which is open to all three levels of study.

Alongside pathway content, the programme provides underpinning cultural and contextual studies that are essential for design graduates.

Modules include art history and the history of Italian design. Other modules in drawing and photography equip students with practical research and presentation skills.

The teaching philosophy of the programme is rooted in the notion of Italian design and context.

The curriculum links practice and research with design history and traditional methods of design.

This emphasis on tradition is reinforced by the institute's location in the centre of Florence, which is within walking distance of some of the most important Western art, architecture and contemporary furniture design studios.

Applications to this course have now closed.
