HÄSTENS COLLABORATES WITH WORLD RENOWNED DESIGNER ‘Meeting of Minds’ Installation during Stockholm Furniture Fair 2010

The world renowned designer, Satyendra Pakhalé has collaborated with Hästens beds to create an installation for the ‘Hästens Meeting of Minds’ exhibition on 9th February 2010. Focusing on sustainable design, the unique collaboration took place during Stockholm Furniture Fair 2010 at Hästens Store Sveavägen. Pakhalé presented a new prototype of a Hästens sofa created exclusively for the exhibition, the first product of its type for the bed brand.

Hästens decided to deconstruct the qualities that make their beds so comfortable and apply these aspects to design outside of the bedroom. The sofa has been created using the same finest natural materials and patented spring system as a Hästens bed, hand-made by skilled craftsmen with rigorous attention to detail. The design of the two-seater sofa features an iconic form with a defined profile, enhanced by sleek legs and a specially designed pillow for the seat. Pakhalé comments,

“I am very enthusiastic about this project. It is no traditional sofa, it’s a much more challenging process where I have been very truthful to the technical comfort of the bed. It is a conversation sofa, sophisticated and subtle with a comfortable feeling. The details make the product.”

Hästens and Satyendra Pakhalé’s joint journey started with an ambitious design collaboration featured in Wallpaper* magazine in January 2009. Pakhalé took inspiration from Hästens’ vision and the rich history including the persistent drive to create products for life, which have been made by hand with passion and pride. This same philosophy at Hästens has been handed down for five generations through one family for more than 150 years.

In a world of mass produced products, the partnership found each other to stand united with a humanistic approach, with a focus on craftsmanship, natural materials and lasting ideas for life.
