Moss Breaks the Rules With 2010 Spring Installation

POETIC LICENSE

deliberate deviations from normally applicable rules and practices

For its 2010 spring exhibition, Moss presents a gallery-wide celebration of rule breaking, envelope pushing and taking chances. The work of each of the designers featured in Poetic License personifies the attribute by which the exhibition is defined. Each pushes the boundary of what’s been done before in a variety of media, and each invents new forms, new processes, new methodologies.

Above: Estense by Michele De Lucchi

Michael Anastassiades: The US launch of new limited-edition studio work from this British artist/designer, featuring his monumental “Mobile Chandeliers” and motorized “Kinetic Lights.”

Mathias Bengtsson: New limited-edition studio works in carbon fibre, laser-cut paper and wood from this Danish designer.

Fernando and Humberto Campana: The US launch of “NativoCampana” by CORSI, Milano, which includes new works produced in resin in combination with other materials and created especially for Moss. Featured is their group of ‘Fossils’: playful vessels with various snakes and assorted insects and other creatures embedded in the amber-like resin. Plus the global launch of Catalogue Raissone, a new and definitive Campana book published by Rizzoli. The Campana brothers will be present to sign.

Michele De Lucchi: The US launch of new studio works - all in wood - by Italian architect/designer De Lucchi, including one-off architectural models, his limited-edition monumental Estense cabinet produced by Design Gallery Milano, and a new series of handcrafted walnut trays, called ‘Vassoi da Muro’, that, when not in use, hang on the wall as models of architectural facades inspired by the ancient poets.

Oskar Zieta: The US launch of limited-edition remarkable metal works by young Polish designer/engineer Zieta, created through new FIDU technology (‘free inside pressure forming’) whereby flat welded metals are industrially inflated, forming various stools, chairs, and tables.

R&Sie(n)/Francois Roche, principle architect: Architectural models of idealized habitable constructions and the robots intended to build them, designed by French architectural firm R&Sie (n) . Produced by .MGX by Materialise, Belgium, using advanced 3-D printing technology (Selective Laser Sintering, in nylon), these models, offered for the first time anywhere and in a very limited edition, are the precursors of revolutionary construction processes which are currently in research and development. Featured are models from two R&Sie (n) projects: “I’ve Heard About” (2005) and “An Architecture Des Humeurs” (2010).

Patrick Jouin: the US launch of Bloom .MGX, a new limited-edition lamp from this French designer currently the subject of a solo exhibition at the Centre Pompidou, Paris. Bloom .MGX, engineered to take advantage of new technologies in 3-D printing allowing for full articulation, is produced by .MGX by Materialise, Belgium.

Finn Magee: the global launch of new ‘dimensional’ printed posters, incorporating electrified functional elements, by this young British designer.

Philippe Starck: For Flos, the master has designed a new form of illumination. The Light Photon, using OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) nanotechnology.

Mark Alexander, Philippe Parreno, and Josh Smith: Following the success of our installation at the Independent fair during the recent New York Armory Show art week, we are continuing our excellent collaboration with independent curators Thea Westreich and Ethan Wagner of Art Advisory Services, New York, and will extend the remit of Poetic License by including paintings and prints by these three artists.
