Maison Martin Margiela wallpaper collection for Omexco

Maison Martin Margiela launches first wallpaper collections for Omexco

Fashion house Maison Martin Margiela has created its first wallcovering collection: a range of five wallpapers for Belgian brand Omexco.

The Maison Martin Margiela collection includes trompe l'œil, optical illusions and reinterpreted motifs and comprises five designs: La Paésine, La Mosaïque, Le Rideau, Le Point de Croix, and L'optique.

La Paésine features a Tuscan limestone pictured at the bottom of each repeat. The designers spotted the stone at a flea market, photographed it and enlarged the photograph. The image was digitally printed onto mica mineral dust on a non-woven backing, giving the finished wallpaper a tactile quality. It comes in a natural version, as well as black and white.

La Mosaïque is based on a geometric mosaic pattern, most commonly seen in 18th-century marquetry, that creates a three-dimensional effect. The print is screen-printed onto a non-woven wall covering and finished with silver or gold leaf. This design comes in turquoise, lapis-lazuli and black; ochre, bordeaux and brown; fading whites; and fading greys.

Le Rideau depicts an ageing staircase in the trompe l'oeil style. The image is screen-printed onto a textile wall-covering to achieve a scattered effect, which can be seen from different perspectives. It comes in white, pearl grey, blue, blue grey and red.

Le Point do Croiz features a cross stitch design of a bouquet of flowers screen-printed onto non-woven wall covering. The print is available in white and silver, nude, and a red and blue version with creates a three-dimensional effect.

A deformed herringbone motif creates an optical illusion close-up and a gently textured design from a distance in L'optique. The design is screen-printed onto a non-woven material with a matt base and gloss finish. The available colours are: black on white, white on black, and black on black, all available in matt and gloss; and brown and copper, and pearl grey and white gold, in matt and metallic.

"By blending humour with elegance and avant-garde ideals with classic tastes, by reinterpreting objects of all forms and sizes and by playing with false pretences, Maison Martin Margiela deconstructs shape and volume and moulds a conceptual aesthetic within a one of a kind realm," said the brand in a statement.
