Fredericia launches furniture collection designed by Jasper Morrison

Dezeen promotion: British designer Jasper Morrison has created a collection of furniture for Danish brand Fredericia, which will launch during this year's Stockholm Furniture Fair (+ slideshow).

The collection – comprising two tables and a sofa – is Morrison's first collaboration with the Fredericia, and was largely inspired by the brand's founding designer Børge Mogensen.

"Fredericia and Børge Mogensen were late but important discoveries for me," said Morrison. "Mogensen, I now realise, is the quintessential Danish designer, capable of creating understated and beautifully proportioned furniture for living the good life – 'super normal' before the term existed."

Taro is one of two tables in the collection, and is available in three different sizes. Constructed from solid wood, the piece is designed as a continuation of Mogensen's dining tables that were also created with the same solid materials.

"We have admired Jasper's designs for many years, as his 'super normal' concept of furniture is able to blend seamlessly into someone's life as either a centrepiece or inconspicuously, and is very similar to the philosophy in which our founding designer Børge Mogensen approached design," said Fredericia creative director Thomas Graversen.

Morrison has also designed a series of side tables made of ash and oak. The multifunctional Pon tables come in various sizes, and are strong enough to be used as stools.

During the fair, Fredericia will also launch the Kile sofa by Morrison, which is built on a solid wooden frame and upholstered in cold cured foam.

The collaboration will be presented at Fredericia's stand – designed and curated by Morrison – during Stockholm Furniture Fair from 9 to 13 February 2016.

Many people know that British designer Jasper Morrison has a penchant for Danish design. Now he and the Danish furniture brand Fredericia have started working together. It is the first time that Jasper Morrison is collaborating with a manufacturer from Denmark – and a result of Morriso's appreciation of the the designer which is most closely connected with Fredericia, Børge Mogensen.

Taro table

Taro has been designed in three sizes to meet the needs of different rooms. Taro is Jasper Morrison's take on a dining table that seeks to continue the heritage of Børge Mogensen’s dining tables created with the same solid materials and with the same strong focus on its daily function and use.

Pon is a series of multifunctional side tables in varying sizes made of ash or oak, designed by Jasper Morrison. The smaller Pon tables are modest in size, but large enough for a book, a glass or a tray. Yet strong enough to sit on.

The small tables can easily be moved around to serve different functions. In addition, the Pon series comprises a large circular sofa table with a diameter of 90 centimetres.

The Pon tables are likewise designed to supplement the Fredericia's existing collection and create a coherence between the different designs in the company’s portfolio of both mid-century and contemporary designs.

Kile sofa

Also at Stockholm Furniture Fair Fredericia will pre-launch the sofa Kile by Jasper Morrison. The sofa is stringently shaped with an almost one-piece straight back and angled armrest which ensures extra comfort for the user. Jasper Morrison has allowed the ends of the sofa to open out slightly to make it more welcoming.

Kile is built on a solid wood frame and upholstered in cold cured foam. A hard-wearing combination that makes the sofa resistant to daily use and wear.

Jasper Morrison has curated and designed Fredericia's stand at this year's Stockholm Furniture Fair. On the stand, Morrison offers his vision of how the Fredericia collection can be presented in his spirit. In addition to Morrison's selected pieces from the Fredericia collection, the stand will be used to showcase a number of new furniture designs of furniture from Danish designers Space Copenhagen, Portuguese Hugo Passos along with Morrison’s new products for Fredericia.
