Dezeen Hot List names Milan Design Week as most important event in the calendar

Despite an explosion in the number of design weeks and architecture festivals taking place each year, Milan's furniture fair is still the most important to architects and designers, reveals Dezeen Hot List.

Published this week, Dezeen Hot List is the most comprehensive data survey of architecture and design media ever conducted. Based entirely on audience data, the 400-strong list reveals the key players and emerging talents in the design world.

Milan's design week ranks third overall, making it the highest-ranking event on the Hot List – well ahead of all of its rivals.

This is testament to its enduring importance to the industry and proof that no other design week comes close to matching its influence, even though dozens of new ones have launched in recent years.

Second place on the Events Hot List is Dutch Design Week – making it the most important of all the newly launched design weeks, ahead of Design Miami and Northmodern.

The list also reveals that London Design Festival isn't the most popular UK design week. It ranks behind the much-smaller Clerkenwell Design Week, which takes place in one of the capital's important creative communities.

The Venice Biennale has proved to be the most popular architecture event, while the most influential annual award is the Pritzker Prize, rather than the Stirling.
