Technology company Apple has released a screen that consolidates the functions of its app products and its home-management software into one device.
HomeView is a seven-inch display meant to function as a centralised location for home controls, signalling a step forward in Apple's home integration and smart home services.
The screens come in two versions. One sits on its own, standing on a base with an integrated speaker, while the other is wall-mounted.
HomeView works similarly to other Apple touchscreen products, with a home screen, apps, widgets and a built-in front-facing camera. It has many of the same functions, including FaceTime video calling.
The product creates a physical dashboard for the Apple Home app, which was released in 2022 to control integrated functions such as smart locks, appliances, cameras and thermostats.
HomeView uses face recognition for up to six people per device in a household with personalised settings for each user, instead of the app sitting on personalised devices.
The product also includes an intercom system that can connect multiple devices within one household.
The tabletop version of the device has a distinct form, with a case and a thick base made from recycled aluminium. Its rounded base and movable screen evoke the design of the 2002 iMac G4 desktop computer.
Apple emphasised the device's potential as decor, calling it "the perfect addition to a kitchen counter, nightstand, or side table."
It comes in four colour options: silver, starlight, rose pink, and space grey.
The company also noted the integration of its next-generation AI, called Siri AI.
"HomeView features Siri AI, an entirely new version of Siri powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence and advanced Apple silicon," said Apple.
"Siri AI is a profoundly more capable and conversational assistant with personal context understanding and onscreen awareness."
The release also included a lineup of updated home products such as cameras, locks and thermostats.
HomeView comes after a slate of recent releases from Apple, including the brand's first foldable smartphone.
