1. General
The organiser of the Competition is Dezeen Limited of 8 Orsman Road, London, N1 5QJ, United Kingdom (Dezeen). The competition is being run in association with and sponsored by Forbo Flooring Systems, Industrieweg 12,NL-1560 AA Krommenie, the Netherlands.
BY SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY, YOU CONFIRM THAT YOU ARE ENTERING INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH DEZEEN AND HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS AND AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THEM.
2. The competition
2.1 The Dezeen x Forbo: Marmoleum Design Challenge (the "Competition") challenges architects and designers to design a space to promote wellbeing featuring Forbo's Marmoleum material.
3. How to enter
3.1 The competition will run from 11:00 CET on 22 February 2024 (the "Opening Date") to 23:59 CET on 30 April 2024 (the "Closing Date") inclusive.
3.2 All competition entries must be received by Dezeen by no later than 23:59 CET on the Closing Date. All competition entries received by us after the Closing Date (whether or not they were sent before) will be void and the acceptance of any entry (whenever received) is at Dezeen’s sole discretion.
3.3 To enter the competition, entrants must register on the Forbo Flooring website available at www.forbo.com/flooring/en-gl/inspiration-references/dezeen-x-forbo-marmoleum-design-challenge/registration-form/pnth6e. Upon registering, they will be sent a link to the online entry form where submissions must be submitted. No other method of submitting entries will be permitted.
3.4 Dezeen will not accept responsibility for competition entries that are incorrectly submitted regardless of cause, including, for example and without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing, as a result of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.
3.5 Dezeen's decision as to whether an entrant (or their entry) is eligible for this competition is final and we are not obliged to provide any reasons for disqualification or an entry being deemed void.
3.6 By submitting a competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions. If you do not agree with any of the terms and conditions, you must not take part.
4. Jury
4.1 Entries will be judged by a jury of Forbo and Dezeen representatives and external industry experts.
4.2 The decision of the jury will be final.
4.3 Entries will be judged on the following criteria:
(a) strength of the overall idea
(b) aesthetics
(c) functionality and practicality
(d) originality
(e) positive impact on users' wellbeing
(f) use of Marmoleum
(g) positive environmental impact
5. Eligibility
5.1 Entrants must be over the age of 18 to enter.
5.2 Entrants may enter more than one design, if they wish. However, entrants will need to fill out and submit a separate entry form for each design they submit.
5.3 Dezeen reserves the right to disqualify an entry if it becomes apparent that a submission is inaccurate or if Dezeen or the jury (in their sole discretion) have any uncertainty about the integrity of the entry.
5.3 In entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim the prize you may win. Dezeen may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition before it will accept your entry.
5.4 Dezeen reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition or these terms.
6. Submission requirements
6.1 Entrants must register on the Forbo Flooring website available at www.forbo.com/flooring/en-gl/inspiration-references/dezeen-x-forbo-marmoleum-design-challenge/registration-form/pnth6e. Upon registering, they will be sent a link to the online entry form where submissions must be submitted, including the following information:
(a) the name of their design;
(b) a description of the design, explaining how it meets the brief (maximum 500 words);
(c) a minimum of five and a maximum of 10 visualisations showcasing the idea;
(d) a moodboard of materials used in the design; and
(e) optionally, a video or animation showcasing the idea.
6.2 Each submitted image should be a single image, free from any logos or text. They should be JPGs with a minimum resolution of 72 dpi and a maximum file size of 1mb each.
6.3 The moodboard should also be submitted as a JPG with a minimum resolution of 72 dpi and a maximum file size of 5mb.
6.3 The optional video or animation should be uploaded to an external hosting platform (such as YouTube or Vimeo) and submitted via a URL.
6.4 For teams, one member of the team should submit the entry with the rest of the team credited in the appropriate field on the form.
6.5 If an entrant wants to submit multiple entries, they should fill out and submit a separate entry form for each entry.
6.6 Entries must be submitted in English.
7. The prizes
7.1 A prize of £5,000 will be awarded to the first-placed design (the "Winner").
7.2 The Winner's design will be realised in collaboration with Forbo Flooring, which will be produced and exhibited in the Forbo Flooring showroom in the Netherlands.
7.3 The Winner will also be invited to attend the launch event in the Netherlands, with the opportunity to meet members of the jury and key people within Forbo Flooring.
8. Winner announcement
8.1 The overall Winner will be announced on www.dezeen.com on 5 June 2024 (Announcement Date).
8.2 The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
8.3 Dezeen will contact the Winner to inform them personally ahead of the Announcement Date, using the telephone number or email address provided with the competition entry.
9. Claiming the prize
9.1 Dezeen will make reasonable efforts to contact the Winner. If the Winner cannot be contacted or is not available, or has not claimed their prize within 30 days of the Announcement Date, Dezeen reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.
9.2 Dezeen does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.
10. Limitation of liability
10.1 Insofar as is permitted by law, Dezeen, Forbo, their agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the Winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of Dezeen, Forbo, their agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.
11. Ownership of competition entries and intellectual property rights
11.1 You will retain ownership of all intellectual property rights in your entry, but by submitting an entry, you agree to grant Dezeen and Forbo an unlimited, global, perpetual, non-exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence to use it for publicity, marketing or advertising purposes including without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing the right (but not the obligation) to:
11.1.1 edit or modify your entry (including resizing, adjusting the colour and adding elements such as text);
11.1.2 adapt it or incorporate it into other materials;
11.1.3 sub-licence it to third parties or companies;
11.1.4 republish it (or any version modified in the way described above) on any media anywhere in the world.
11.1.5 you agree that Dezeen also has the right to issue Forbo with a sub-licence to use the entry for its own publicity, marketing or advertising purposes in accordance with the rights set out in this clause.
11.2 In addition, you warrant, agree and undertake that your entry:
11.2.1 is your own original work and does not breach any third party's intellectual property rights;
11.2.2 is not defamatory, offensive, threatening, discriminatory, distasteful, pornographic or illegal;
11.2.3 can be submitted to us and used without breaching any contractual (or other) obligation to any person or entity; and
11.2.4 does not contain anything which may be confidential or commercially sensitive.
11.3 You agree to keep Dezeen (for itself and for Forbo) fully indemnified from any claims or threats of claims that arise as a result of a breach of clause 11.2 (whether actual or purported).
11.4 You agree to promptly execute and deliver such documents and perform such acts as may be required for the purpose of giving full effect to these terms and conditions and in particular without limitation clauses 11.1, 11.2 and 11.3 if so required.
12. Data protection and publicity
12.1 By entering the competition, you agree that we will store the entry materials on our database for up to 12 months. Your data will be only accessed by employees of Dezeen and Forbo and the appointed judges.
12.2 Dezeen and Forbo will only process your personal information as set out in the competition privacy policy, which is available at www.dezeen.com/forbo-flooring-marmoleum-design-challenge-privacy-policy.
13. General
13.1 If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, Dezeen may, at its sole discretion, exclude you from participating in the competition.
13.2 Dezeen reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so in Dezeen's sole judgement.
13.3 These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
13.4 Dezeen reserves the right to change and/or amend the Terms and Conditions if necessary to achieve its purpose and/or the successful realisation of the competition. Dezeen will use reasonable endeavours to notify entrants of any changes to these terms and conditions as soon as reasonably practicable.
