Master in Architecture in Iterative Design and Prototyping at the Paris School of Architecture
The Master in Architecture in Iterative Design and Prototyping at the Paris School of Architecture offers an intensive two-year programme for students to identify and refine individual specialisms within architecture.
The Paris School of Architecture (PS-Arch) is an independent graduate-level institution based in Paris. Founded in 2019 and located in the vibrant Canal Saint-Martin area, the school's mission is to cultivate independent thinkers, makers, and entrepreneurs interested in the transdisciplinary dimensions of architecture.
Awarded RIBA Part 2 Candidate Course Status in 2026, PS-Arch offers a distinctive architectural education grounded in critical design, independent research and professional development, while aligning with one of the world's most widely recognised frameworks for architectural education.
The programme prepares graduates for contemporary practice, further academic research and international career pathways.
The programme is structured around an integrated year-long studio project. Beginning in September and concluding in June, students develop a topic of investigation that culminates in an architectural proposal presented through a final exhibition and public programme in Paris.
In term one, students undertake rigorous research and formulate a speculative project brief. In term two, they develop an architectural response to that brief, and in term three refine their proposals for final review and exhibition.
Working across scales and disciplines, projects engage with contemporary questions of culture, ecology, technology, identity, governance, urban analysis and the future of the built environment.
Alongside the studio, students participate in Professional Practice, which introduces the economic, technical, legal, and organisational frameworks of architecture while exploring the diverse opportunities, responsibilities, and modes of contemporary professional work.
Critical Inquiry runs in parallel as a research-based course focused on writing, mapping and alternative media, encouraging students to develop independent methods of investigation and contribute to contemporary architectural discourse.
The curriculum is further enriched through Communication and Digital Tools courses, alongside intensive workshops and masterclasses integrated throughout the year, delivered in collaboration with external practitioners and partner institutions.
These explore a range of methods for developing and communicating architectural ideas, including narrative, film, exhibition design, BIM, computational workflows, fabrication methods and emerging digital practices.
For students interested in advanced digital design methodologies, an Iterative Design and Prototyping option is available. Building on the Digital Tools curriculum, students develop bespoke workflows combining computational design, modelling, simulation, fabrication and prototyping.
The pathway emphasises iteration as a design method, enabling students to test, refine, and communicate architectural ideas through a range of digital and physical media while developing the technical skills increasingly required in contemporary practice.
The Paris School of Architecture maintains a strongly student-centred approach. Students receive extensive one-to-one tutorial time with tutors, workshop leaders, and invited practitioners, alongside access to fabrication facilities, professional mentoring and career guidance.
Assessment culminates in a final jury and public exhibition in central Paris, presenting student work to a broad audience of architects, academics, and industry professionals.
