The Design for Manufacture MArch course at the Bartlett School of Architecture supports students as they develop their engineering and design skills, including robotics and 3D-scanning.

The Design for Manufacture MArch at UCL's Bartlett School of Architecture equips students with creative skills in design, engineering, material performance, analogue and digital fabrication, and advanced systems operations.

The Bartlett is ranked number one in the world for Architecture and Built Environment (QS World University Ranking by Subject 2025) ​and number one in the UK for Architecture (The Guardian University Guide 2026).

Your work will be exhibited in the annual Fifteen Show – a showcase of student work attracting hundreds of visitors to the school's Here East location.

What will I learn during this course?

– Explicit knowledge of design, engineering, material behaviour, analogue and digital craft and advanced systems operations
– Equip you with skills in new forms of advanced design and engineering methods – such as robotics and 3D-scanning

What are the requirements?

– A minimum of a second-class UK degree in an appropriate subject or an overseas qualification of an equivalent standard
– Applicants with extensive experience in the field may also be considered
– A design/creative portfolio
– Applicants will be asked to submit a portfolio of their design work once their completed application has been received and should not send or upload work until it has been requested

– State-of-the-art facilities at the UCL Here East campus
– Fabrication labs and expansive prototyping spaces designed to support full-scale, one-to-one experimentation
